Review
Grundig's smallest and cheapest radio. Receives stereo FM as well as six SW bands. Poor sensitivity and image rejection means you'll hear many signals that aren't really there, and miss many signals that really are there. Has analog tuning dial. Both tuning and volume controls are backwards compared to a normal radio. This prevents accidentally turning the radio on when you put it in your pocket. Although it's not a very good radio, its small size (4" x 2 1/2" x 3/4") makes it convenient to take on trips.

In an informal comparison with a Sony 2010, the 100 PE had difficulty pulling in stations that were clearly audible on the Sony. On the other hand, the 100 PE picked up some sources of noise and some signals that didn't seem to exist at all as far as the Sony was concerned. Many of the real signals in the 100 PE were accompanied by 5 kHz heterodynes that people have come to associate with shortwave radio.

For example, the Sony was able to receive the 15 MHz WWV time signal with good readability under bad reception conditions, while with the 100 PE, using the same antenna, it was not possible to even tell whether a signal was present. On the other hand, the 100 PE had a much crisper sound, and in contrast to the Sony, the 100 PE receives FM broadcast in stereo.
